So guess where the best beach in Antigua is? Jolly Harbour baby! Boo yeah! If you're going on Tuesday or Thursday get there early because it will get busy. Bring a chair or pay a bit to rent one. You came to relax - this is the spot.
What would you like to do? rent a paddle board - they got it. Need transport to another part of the island? Rent a jumby and drive yourself! Prefer to be driven in a tour - no problem! Want to try out a scooter? they got you covered. Do you see yourself in a dune buggy? Salty Dog has some brand new ones! Right in Jolly Harbour the Canadian owner will be pleased to help you out. Check out Salty Dog Rentals.
There might not be a better way to explore Antigua's east coast. The couple who started this company still run it out of their amazing home. Relaxing and breathtaking with a little bit of exercise, Antigua Paddles allows visitors a unique look at some of the most beautiful places on the island. Words don't do it justice. The website can be found here.
Want to "sea" what's underwater? Snorkelling could be a great way to go! Get gear from our resort (or bring your own) and check it out from shore. Looking for more? Check out West Coast Tours/ Antigua Reef Riders! Anyone over 5 can ride and over 18 to drive their boats. You can ride and snorkel for 3 hours for US$70 per person or combine with 6 hour island tour for US$150. Looks like a lot of fun! Highly rated.
My personal fave! Located right in Jolly Harbour, Indigo Divers offers a variety of scuba options including a one day discover package for those interested in trying scuba for the first time. They are highly rated for their safety and informative service. Check out their website here
If you need a break from the beach, are getting restless, looking to explore Antigua and learn about its colonial history, then take a trip to English Harbour. Here you will find Nelson's Dockyard, the Admiral's House Museum, the Pillars of Hercules and Shirley Heights. Many places in English Harbour are directly connected to the time when Lord Nelson was here (prior to his encounter with Napoleon). The Admiral's House Museum provides information and artifacts of Nelson's residence. The Pillars of Hercules are a rock formation along the coast that can be viewed from Nelson's Dockyard or up close by boat. For over 30 years there has been a party at Shirley Heights on Sundays. It starts at 4:00 and the main focus is the sunset. Around 7:00 the music kicks it up a notch and the dancing begins. It's all over by 10:00. Good food and beverages and an introduction to the beauty of the sun setting over the Caribbean.
It's another beautiful day and you're looking for a change of scenery; a beach where you can relax and the kids can explore and create a seashell collection. Darkwood Beach is less than 4 km south of Jolly Harbour. It has fewer rocks, more shells and less people. A couple of establishments are available to provide food and drink if you like.
Kicking it east-side! St. Phillip has a few famous destinations you may want to explore. Half-moon bay is a beautiful beach to see and will provide some amazing pictures. The water however can be quite rough and is reported to have a significant amount of seaweed. Your next stop should be Devil's Bridge. An outcropping of rock that has been shaped by the sea. If you're looking for a beach to relax on while on this side of the island, then Long Beach should be your destination. It can be very busy if a cruise is in port so check your dates and plan accordingly.
